Peraza shut down for 6-8 weeks

Yankees SS Oswald Peraza will be shut down for 6-8 weeks after suffering an injury to his right shoulder. He was expected to start the season on the major-league roster, likely filling in at 2B, SS, and 3B when called upon.

Peraza's defense has impressed while he has played in the majors in parts of the last 2 seasons. So far, he has a .216 batting average over the course of 70 games and 514 at bats.

The open midfield bench spot for the Yankees is most likely to be filled by either Kevin Smith or Josh VanMeter on the opening day roster. The Yankees open the season on March 28th against the Astros at Minute Maid Park.
